Chakra system

Over the next little bit, I’m going to use my personal experiences to help describe what having imbalances in your chakra system is like. The chakra system is an ancient energy map within your body, with seven main centers running from your spine’s base to the crown of your head, each influencing specific physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of your life. So, buckle up bebe because I’ve been going through one hell of a dark night the last 8-9 months and I want to talk about it.

Did you know that the chakra system is actually anatomical and not just energetic? When I was getting my somatic certification we learned this and it blew my damn mind. Because chakras are typically seen as purely energetic, research, including studies by the HeartMath Institute, have shown that chakras, similar to acupuncture points, emit an electromagnetic frequency that can be measured, and the meridian lines – the energy highways of the body – converge at chakra points much like a surge protector power strip.

These “outlets,” or chakras, connect with the central nervous system and other body systems, combining energy into a powerful, measurable force. The subtle body can be cross-referenced with the central nervous system. There have been studies and experiments examining the electric, magnetic and optical emissions from chakras during meditation.

The body is conscious. It is so very intelligent. I feel like it’s gotten a bad rap from the twisted and dualistic view of spirit and body, where the body is often seen as “sinful” or an “earthly” vessel that’s created distortions of disconnection through body shaming, and especially women – objectified, and being linked solely to the material world.

But the body makes up one of the triads of mind-body-spirit, and represents a divine and harmonious union, integrated in the power of three…meaning it’s not just a vessel holding your thoughts, traumas, your ego, your guts…if you ask your body what it needs and wants, and you begin to listen to…the nuances, the subtle and unique ways that your body speaks, you will see.

Balancing your chakras is an ongoing process because energy is constantly in motion, and so are you. Your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual states shift daily, because of whatever you have going on in your life…stress, relationships and the energy of others, your environment. It’s not a “one-and-done” practice. Your chakras vibrate at specific frequencies, so they’re always working to recalibrate and return to their natural resonance.

As you grow and heal, new layers of energy patterns and blockages may come to the surface. And as you evolve spiritually and emotionally, your energy centers have to adapt to support your higher vibration and expanded consciousness. Even exciting or transformative events can cause imbalances as your system adjusts to change. It’s an ongoing process because your energy is always shifting, but with practice, you can attune to your energy system, and recognize when something’s off and guide yourself back into harmony.
